USURP-RISES is a two-day Punk Rock Music Festival, overflowing with raw energy and rebellious spirit. “Usurp” means to take a position of power or importance illegally or by force. It’s meant to embody the liberating and electrifying culture of Punk Rock, featuring all bands from the legends to underground artists with unexpected collaborations.
Process
This project was my first time designing using a synthesizing process.
The USURP-RISES event poster started from the creation of 12 separate composition explorations and multiple rounds of combining unlikely composition pairs to get different results.
One of the results of these combinations eventually was refined into a harmonious, visually-pleasing design system for this fictional punk rock event.

In order to keep consistent throughout the event brand assets (such as brochures, tickets, merchandise, etc.) I decided to add images that build upon the dark, grungy feel of punk rock.
I incorporated different photos from popular punk rock bands in the invitation (top left), wristband (top right), and ticket (bottom), also allowing the black to take over in contrast with the main poster.

T-shirts are a popular merchandise for concerts and events, so I produced a bold, imagery-focused design (right).
